Moar pictures of the Siemens EPD-1 guts

portion of the flat flex cable
Traces from top to bottom:
Ground (to case)
Negative power (ground)
Positive power

The lower large pad is the negative battery terminal, the upper positive. This is where I connected a Li-ion cell and the unit did something.

The weird springy sheet metal clip...thing...holds this:

Absolutely no idea WTF

The center pin of this weird thing is the unknown* trace, the case is connected to ground.

  1. Hi.
    Center pin is Reset.
Short it to ground (few sec)for start device.

  2. what did you use for battery? Got one at home, but entirely clueless about how to power it.

  3. you can use a small and flat LiPa accumulator (3,6V) like this one shown in this ebay auction: https://www.ebay.com.my/itm/Siemens-EPD-1-Digital-Alarming-Dosimeter-/400335199376

Such accumulators were used in mobile phones in the past (Nokkia, Ericsson) so they should be still available on the after-market, but you have to design an improvised connection to those battery terminals shown in the picture above.

Suitable charger (like ths shown in the picture) are also available.
